Welcome to the Esquimalt High School Rugby Academy

After a long process to meet the District criteria for starting a new high school sports academy, we are super excited to announce that Esquimalt High School will officially have the first sanctioned high school rugby academy on Vancouver Island!

In Victoria, we are very fortunate that we have such an incredible wealth of Rugby Canada talent living and playing here and we have enlisted the support and expertise of literally the “Who’s Who?” of Canadian Rugby. In fact two of our male associate coaches were just named to the All-World Dream Team Seven Aside team and several of our female associate coaches are members of the 2nd ranked Women’s Seven Aside team in the world. You want to be the best, you learn from the best!

We encourage all male and female students from grades 9-12 with an interest in Rugby to look closely at this new and innovative educational program. The program focuses are:

  • Academics
  • Personal character development
  • Development of excellent work ethic
  • Teamwork
  • Goal setting
  • Increased awareness of social responsibility
  • increased self-esteem
  • Community service
  • Increased connectedness to both school and community

Yes, rugby does fit into our extensive curriculum but it is just the glue that we use to build awesome Canadian Citizens and send our youth onto the next phases of their lives better prepared. With role models like those listed in our associate coach and Program coordinator pages, we are confident the impact we will have on our students will be game changing!

Have a look at our site and please feel free to contact us with any questions and/or comments.

Yours in rugby,
